For the record, real photographers definitely crop.

and any crop necessarily results in a loss of resolution. But for any reasonable prosumer camera, you're not losing a meaningful amount if you want to make a 4x5 shot out of a portion of the frame.
ISO 3200 will help you shoot night shots, but dark lighting is still a situation where digital cameras fall short compared to film. Use a mounted flash.
