anything causing enough damage to the flter will also cause more than enough damage to the lens

UV can cause haze or bluishness, especially in the mountains. it's not something I'd use all the time, but they have a point. -- nm - mafic Oct 13, 12:19 3

A UV filter isn't likely to be needed in low light and trust me, having a filter can sure save your lens from an inadvertent scratch -- nm - oblique Oct 13, 12:16
