It all sounds like more of a PR failure. They've probably been working on it since the incident

sending their best guys in to work the problem, rebuilding, reconstructing, whatever and finally got it fixed. Of course, it doesn't seem that they told anyone this so they get raked over the coals in the meantime. Depending on the amount of data, a week for a full restore isn't unreasonable.
