most people don't any murderers. but the one who do are probably just as surprised by it as you would be.

plenty of people are charged with murder and their friends are *stunned*.
the odds of someone you know actually committing murder, are, of course, incredibly low, but, i'm sure most people who've ended up in court watching their brother's trial or something, are just as shocked as you would be.
