Because I haven't had an odd roommate request this week...

A friend of mine, who works in corrections, recommended a 25 year old filipino guy who spent a year in jail for strong arm robbery (a guy owed him money and he beat him up to get it back). He's back in a bad home situation where the mom and big sister do drugs, and the brother pimps out the sister. My friend has been talking with the guys parole officer and they think he'd do really well in a stable and supportive environment. And of course, I get brought up...As a favor to my friend I met the kid, and I feel really bad for him. He only finished 11th grade, but busts his ass doing odd jobs and menial labor and really wants to start taking classes, but when he brought a application and catalog home from a community college, his brother burned them and told him that he was no good, just like the rest of them, and he'd never be any better than he was.
He's very handy, could do occasional fixit jobs on my property. He's obsessed with working out. He's very small, and he said he had to act really tough and try to look big so he wouldn't get preyed on in prison. My dog loves him, and the kid kinda got choked up when my friend was telling him about my house and how I help guys out with school.
Of course, I have no extra bedroom, but he was begging to just sleep on the couch or on the floor. Both my friend and the parole officer are confident there's no chance of stealing or a relapse if he's in a good environment, and both said I'd probably be saving the kid's life if I took him in.
Realistically, the guy is a felon and this seems way risky, even to me. Talk me out of it oh wise ST.
