let's play office outrage yet again. should I be outraged here?

I have class 10:30 - 12:30 in room 124, with matt, my officemate.
I have class 12:45 - 2:45 in room 124.

I have about ten minutes to run across the street, grab lunch, and get back. dr. oliva always keeps us late, and dr. freaking katok always starts way early.

at 12:35 today (thanks, dr. oliva!), I ran out of the room (leaving keys and laptop here), ran across the street, and grabbed lunch. when I got back, matt, my officemate,was standing in 124 holding my office key.

"I needed to borrow your key," he said. "I took it off your keychain."

this is not okay, right? I mean, I said to him quite harshly "I never mind loaning you my key, but I don't like the idea of you pawing through my things; please wait the five minutes for me to get back in the future."

was I out of line? he looked like he'd been slapped.
