I posted last month about how I was sort of getting screwed by my recruiter for around $5 an hour. I had a conversation with the recruiter about that, and after me basically exposing their little lie to me, they sort of admitted they could probably get me the $5 an hour.
I think I also posted that I am worried about my team being joined by some team members from India, and that eventually we all might get outsourced.
So, recently I put a current resume out there and have been interviewing a bit for new positions. Mostly contracts still, because I like the idea of being a contractor for now. I haven't pursued the getting the $5 an hour raise because I don't want to go through a big fight to get it and then just leave, makes me look like a douche.
However, last week, we found out that our team technical lead was moving on to a new position and that one of the permanent IBM'ers would be getting promoted to his postion. This person, Dan, is a great guy, and I have an excellent rapport with him. He has indicated that I will be one of his 'go to guys', and has already started throwing some interesting projects my way, including a datacenter upgrade which looks like it could provide lots of interesting experience.
So, now I'm waffling. Do I go get that $5 an hour and stick around for awhile or do I continue looking around?
Pros of sticking around:
- working from home, minimal driving (commuting would be likely with any other job, approx 1.5-2 hrs per day)
- $5 an hour raise gets me closer to expected wage at other contracts
-I'm the "VMware guy", good experience on my resume
Cons of Sticking around
- could get outsourced at any moment
- new contract would likely pay $5 more per hour again even
- no overtime allowed
- team members from India are crappy at their jobs and annoying
Thoughts?
