I recall discussing this with you in the past, I think, and it comes down to differing views we have of the portrayal.

I thought the portrayal was highly realistic. You are talking about two men, in a time when men are not allowed to each other, and moreover when men are expected to be macho tough guys. They find themselves in love, they don't know what to do with, they sure as hell don't know how to show it (they are macho men, after all). The fear and the sense of feeling trapped, but unwilling to let go, was palpable to me.
I don't know if it's that I can relate, or if I'm projecting, but I thought it was done right.
(I didn't have a couple of smaller gripes with them the film, but overall thought it great)
