Can someone simplify what the difference between first, second, and third-person shooter means? -- nm

I thought the term FPS came about to differentiate them from side scrollers back in the day. Also, I have never heard of the latter two terms. -- nm

first = Halo. third = Contra. second = theoretical non-existant (for all intents and purposes). -- nm

Well, first person means you're view is that of the shooter, like classic games: Doom, Quake, etc. 3rd person must refer to the cinematic style like

first is where you are looking out of their eyes (ie halo) third is where you see them from above/behind (ie, god of war). -- nm
