My thoughts on an auto bailout

*IF* the government does this, it should choose the most fundamentally sound and install a new board and void all union contracts.
Then, as part of the New Energy initiative, focus all energies on producing green autos HERE IN THE US. No more plants in Canada or Mexico. Bring all production home.
Renegotiate all union contracts to recognize that unions *within the auto industry* are dead weight that curb the ability of the company to be competitive.
The ONLY reason I would be in favor of a bailout is because of the number of interconnected industries that would be affected by a complete failure of the US automakers. A failure would not bother me if their were low barriers to entry, but barriers are high and it is unlikely that any new US auto maker would pop up to replace the lost ones.
As for home builders? Suck it. Low barriers to entry. One goes under another will take its place when the economy improves
