I can see how the ads could have that effect.

I think I adopted pre-this-line-of-ads, and I was my interest was piqued by an apple store employee who was subdued, non-obtrusive, not at all pushy, and simply offered to show my some things about the Mac. As if she had been trained "let the OS sell itself". That worked, on me. The current ad campaign probably wouldn't have (though I do like a good number of the ads in the campaign, I admit).

Then again, I'm not sure if the ad campaign is trying to win people over as much as it's trying to keep the core fan base in place. The IPhone, and foot traffic through apple stores has done more to sell Macs than that ad campaign, I bet.
