I did a quick read and had a similar position before but ultimately you're talking about separate but equal (unions vs. marriage) and that doesn't fly

in our country. That's why I will fully support gay marriages as a secular institution. I still have doubts about gay marriages in my religious institution but that's also, partially, a matter for my religion to discuss, not the state.
