Well yeah you can discipline them for negligence/incompetence. To get dismissed you would have to do something crazy. Plus, that would pretty much end

the resident's career. Since no other hospital will want you after that.
Residency isn't simply a "job". There is a whole match process where the med student write down which specialty they want and which hospital they want to train at. Then the hospital writes down which med student they want.
But either way, if the hospital isn't paying their salary, why fire them?
It is just getting too unreal.
