This is definitely a serious flaw with cats. However, as stupid as cats are, I've never seen one eat poop, unlike every dog I've known.

One of our cats ate a long strip of fabric. She tried to urp it back up and all she could get was an end that dangled out of her mouth. We had to pull it the rest of the way.
That's only slightly less gross than the Easter grass we once had to pull out of the opposite end of another cat.
