It's... complicated. He supports "traditional marriage", is not in favor of gay marriage, is in favor of civil unions, and wants DOMA overturned.

It's a tightrope walk meant to anger as few people as possible and manages to satisfy no one.
The desire to accord marriage some special "man and woman only" status is ridiculous in the extreme.
