I've only been to SF, and was desperately poor at the time, but Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, Fisherman's Wharf, SF Museum of Modern Art

Walk around the various neighbourhoods - Chinatown, North Beach, Nob and Russian Hills, Haight-Ashbury, Castro. Alcatraz might also be a good option
For food - chowder in a sourdough loaf and Mission style burritos are two cheap options
Lots of movies are set in SF - Vertigo, Dirty Harry, etc so you can watch those and get some ideas :)
