At a prenight dinner I always shied away from brining things with me. They most likely (and should already) have your resume so this really isn't a requirement. Cover letters are not needed at an event like this.
I think you should just show up and be yourself. If you think it's necessary, bring a portfolio which you can store on a chair, and get things out of if needed. But sometimes I think the resumes and portfolios is overkill
