The referee's response would not have been "huh?" it would have been "jeez, send a woman out to the coin toss and this is what happens."
Also, Dillon is not dying as much as it is economically depressed - however, that does not preclude the idea of extremely rich people still residing in that area. It's oil country, and ranch country, and some people would become disgustingly rich at that even in poor areas (note that in a poor area, land would also be much cheaper and lead to the possibility of mcmansions).
TMQ's second biggest flaw beyond his inability to be concise is his lack of imagination.
