I guess it depends on how you define "trappings".

As long as they're not donning robes, commissioning stain-glassed windows, declaring jihad and crusades I don't have a problem with the little I've read about them.

All kinds of clubs/organizations/associations have some kind of structure and some of it could be defined as "trappings" by others.
