I'm being kind with the grade. It was too repetitive, so too long. You got your limo racing the earthquake, with stuff flying & falling all around. Then you got your small plane racing the earthquake with more stuff flying & falling. OMG, will it get in the air before it gets smashed by a building? Then you got the RV racing the earthquake *and* a volcano with still more stuff. Then the big plane (repeat stuff).
And that's all before the tsunamis hit. Like mentioned earlier, all the cruise ship bits could have (should have) been cut. They should have at least let Segal play his banjo.
The first half moved along faster than I realized. The effects were good, if over the top sometimes, but that's to be expected from Emmerich. I wonder if he's capable of making a small disaster movie. But that would make the other flaws in his movies show all the more. Plot? Characterization? Dialogue? Nah, I don't think he can do it.
On top of it all...not enough Mayans.
