"...to win the game." Not "...that won the game."

I guess you could insert "try and" in there.
And they never lost horribly. They lost a close game to a tough (undefeated) rival.
I'm sure there will be polls, and he will be questioned for the call in other ways as well. But it wasn't a bad call.
