Do you use Qtips? Go see the doctor.

I had an earache a few years back, went to the doctor and he pulled out some nasty crap that was built up from the ear wax and cotton from qtips. He said never to use qtips and since then I (mostly) stopped.
Responses:
The best way to handle ear wax is to let water flow into your ear in the shower, then turn your head over and dump it out. Daily. -- nm

Or use an ear syringe and it's done in 2 minutes. -- nm

for me that's the best way to get water trapped in my ear. -- nm

also, wax is not water soluble. -- nm

it softens it and allows the body's natural processes to work.

ah. well, as I said, I am guaranteed to get water stuck in there that I cannot get out. -- nm

I love Qtips. This is mildly concerning. -- nm

When I had to go to the doc-in-a-box because I had a part of my hearing aid stuck in my ear, the doc told me that she removes q-tips

I use q-tips but I don't have a lot of wax in my ears. (I've been checked often by docs and audiologists, yes) -- nm

Q-Tips can only push wax in deeper. -- nm

well, that's obviously not "only" what it can do. it can also get wax out. -- nm

I think you're only supposed to clean around the ear canal and not try to go in -- nm

if I get a little bit of wax in there then put in my hearing aids, the tickling drives me INSANE. -- nm

Yeah I do, which is why I was like how could this much wax be in there? Good point.

I'm pretty sure he pulled out whatever they had on that Star Trek movie that burrowed in your ear.

Yep, something like that as well. He was trying to flush it out with a bulb and warm water, but still had to reach in and grab it out.
