I pretty much agree. If I cost my team qualification to the World Cup I am hated by my team-mates and loathed by my supporters

If I just carry on as if nothing happened, my team and my fans shrug their shoulders and say "qualification feels great" and "bad referee decisions are part of the game" and the people who hate me are people I don't care about
Weirdly, my answer might change if I were competing in an individual sport
