I actually got in trouble for this when I applied for my current position.

the HR recruiter said that if I were an attorney I could gt reported to the bar association for misrepresenting my employer.
Plus, if they call HR at the company you were assigned to instead of your employer, they won't have any record of you as an employee. Better to list the temp agency "on contract with" the company where you were assigned, or similar.
