I have sincere sympathy for those who are advocating these new recommendations.


I am happy to defer to those with lifetimes of medical experience, and if they say the new recommendations are better for everyone overall, I'm inclined to trust them.

But within hours of the new mammogram recommendations being publicized, I heard multiple women on talk radio saying "I had breast cancer discovered at 42 [or whenever] and it was successfully treated... but if I had waited until 50..."

Maybe this really isn't relevant to the overall recommendations. But I sincerely sympathize with those who have to argue against "if I had followed your plan, I'd be dead now". Tough stuff.
