I would say that 70% of the people in my program returned to school to career-switch. an MBA makes it easy to leverage past experience

by coupling it with newly acquired strategic, technical, and managerial skills.

one can use all of these "puzzle pieces" to switch industries seamlessly.

also, your school's career services dept will have contacts that will allow you greater access to certain industries than you would have on your own as a "private citizen" job switcher.

so just make sure that the company that you're targeting post-MBA is one that recruits at your school or has a huge alumni presence at the very least.

also, I am sure other here will disagree, but I personally don't think marketing is a safe field right now for someone without a career's worth of experience in marketing strategy. if I wanted to do marketing, I would get in at a huge company and move there laterally very slowly after threeish years. starting salaries in marketing won't correct probably for five years minimum. the economy has not been kind to marketing professionals.
