My favorite find was three albums by The Avett Brothers, who play what other people are calling "punkgrass", which isn't exactly appropriate, but consider an awesome alt-bluegrass group who obviously enjoy their louder non-country music. Carries the Rick Rubin stamp of approval. I opted for "Four Thieves Gone: The Robbinsville Sessions".
"Odessey and Oracle" by The Zombies, because I shouldn't ignore good 60's pop rock.
"Troubadour" by k'naan is like M.I.A. if M.I.A. was a Somalian dude who is a *way* better rapper than M.I.A.
"Crack the Skye" by Mastodon is like a more southern and Metallica-ish version of The Mars Volta, if the Mars Volta were better and less obnoxious.
"Middle Cyclone" by Neko Case, because, well, because it's Neko Case.
There were a few others that I almost got, but stopped, like "The Crane Wife" by the Decemberists, and the new Kelly Clarkson, and the new Regina Spektor, and so on.
