It's publisher and book specific, though.
The max, I believe is the ability to share on up to 6 Kindles, Kindle apps, Kindle for PC all registered to the same account.
Publishers can limit that. The description on the Kindle item should list any particular restrictions for that book/mag/etc.
In addition: You can synch your copies across devices. So if you read to Chapter 5 on Kindle 1, read to Chapter 7 on Kindle 2 then go back to Kindle 1, you can "synch to furthest page read" and Kindle 1 will pick up where you left off on Kindle 2.
