Dinner was *awesome*. The Columbia is a cuban restaurant, and with $100 in gift certificates, the two of us ordered whatever we wanted.

From the menu, what we had:

drinks: mojito (B-), diet coke

appetizer:
Shrimp and Crabmeat Alcachofas
Baked casserole of shrimp, crabmeat and artichoke hearts topped with grated Romano cheese. (B)

Black bean soup (B+) for her, salad for me (A).

Entrees:
Palomilla
"If you haven't been to Cuba or Miami lately, you probably haven't had a steak like this." Marinated top sirloin cut very thin and quickly grilled, topped with mojo crudo (chopped onion, parsley and lime juice). Served with platanos and french fries or rice. (B+)

Filet Steak Salteado
Choice tenderloin tips are placed in a very hot saut pan, then we combine Spanish extra virgin olive oil with a touch of fresh garlic then add sliced sweet Spanish onion, green bell pepper, fresh mushrooms, diced potatoes, Spanish sausage (chorizo) and a splash of red wine. Served with yellow rice. (A)

Dessert:
Brazo Gitano "Cien Aos"
100th Anniversary version of the original recipe from Casimiro Hernandez, Sr., founder of the Columbia Restaurant. Spongecake soaked in syrup with Spanish Manzanilla Sherry filled with Spanish cream and strawberries, rolled and topped with meringue. Served tableside with strawberry sauce and flambed. (A)

Key Lime Pie (this was one of the best key lime pies I've ever tasted - and I love Key Lime Pie.) (A+)

Overall A-. A very good meal all around. Had my entree been better (or what I was envisioning), it would have been an A.
