I'm not claiming they ever did (in fact Iran had a lot of issues with AlQaeda)

but the way I saee it (admittedly simplistically) Mossadegh leads to the Shah, the Shah leads to the revolution, the revolution leads to the Iran-Iraq war with the US supporting Saddam because he's against Iran, that leads to Saddam going after Kuwait, which leads to the US going into Iraq and having bases in Saudi Arabia, which is what sets off OBL (and of course there's the parallel track that leads to Afghanistan being a base for AQ).
