Actually, any actor, painter, sculptor, singer etc. can be fairly called an artist.

The question isn't whether the result is art, but whether it's -good- art. Even if the product sucks, they put in the creative effort to make it.
Like... and believe me, it kills me to say this... Britney Spears is an artist. Just not necessarily a good one.
