Currently you can restrict your profile so only Friends can see it. This will make it easier to keep certain Friends in the dark for some posts.

I was set to "Friends only" and people I knew couldn't find me because we weren't already friends.
Even expanding it to "Friends of Friends" left some people out.
So you CAN be very private on the current Facebook. Soon you'll be able to have 1 profile, but be able to dictate who sees what individual items.
