Oldboy is a great mind-eff movie, though not for the squeamish (so I think you'll like it)

City of God is a gritty depiction of life in the slums of Rio through the 70s and 80s. I thought it was great, but haven't found the fortitude for a rewatch.
In the Mood For Love is a very deliberate (read slow) romance. I really liked it, but you may find it sloooow. If you're looking for a movie from the list to watch with Mrs V, Before Sunset is the one, but it's 90 minutes of talking about stuff (and you may also have to watch the prequel)
