The very same thing happened to me, including the tonsilectomy at age 5.

I still got frequent ear infections, but they didn't tube kids then like they do now. Even as an adult, I'll pop up a high fever in a heartbeat. Last year when I had pneumonia, it ran between 103.6 to 104.8 for several days.
Right now with this kidney thing, I'll start having chills, then the shakes about 6 pm every day. I'll run a temp of about 102, go lie down and cover up with about 5 blankets, shake my way to sleep, then wake up 2-3 hours later, wringing wet, with a headache. It's driving me nuts, but my doctor keeps telling me "you run a fever for a reason--your white count is sky high and the fever helps kill them."
