HOA denied his request to erect flagpole in July, he put it up anyway. What say you, ST?

Seriously? I never realized people were so offended by flagpoles. I've always enjoyed seeing the flag flown from a flagpole rather than a bracket. -- nm

eyesore doesn't have to mean you're offended. The other things though is that some people think that flags represent a lot of meaningless deaths. -- nm

It's a flag. The reason they exist is to call attention to themselves. -- nm

I posted an earlier update on this story here a couple weeks back. Startlingly enough, I have to side with the HOA.

Yup. And like the article (HOA) says, "it's not about the flag, it's about a flag pole." -- nm

Word. Real simple...go get one of those flagpole thingys that screw into the side of your house and fly the flag there. -- nm

They're about uniformity. *remembers the steps involved in building the fence*

Not really uniformity, but an agreed upon set of guidelines to keep the value of the community up. -- nm

that's precisely my problem with them. They create a warped sense of what makes a community valuable. -- nm

I thought the people paying money (and less money for characteristics) create the sense of a community's value. -- nm

*shrug* He should remove it. He can fly the flag from a post on his house.

I've seen homeowner's associations do much crazier things than this. I can't think of a reason why this rule would exist. -- nm

if i buy a house and i want to put *anything* on my lawn, or paint my house *any* colour, i don't want someone telling me i can't. -- nm

You won't want that when the person next to you paints their house Neon Orange, which then drops the appraised value of *your* home $100,000, you will

Thing is, if you buy a house in a planned community that has an HOA, you accept that someone *can* tell you that as condition of buying that house.
