but a) Elin may very well have been the woman he loved more than any other, b) he thought he was "loving" her but needed to hit bottom to sort of piece together what was missing, and c) if he then realizes what "real love" entails, it would make sense that he would want to apply that new definition and additional commitment and closeness to the woman he cared most for previously: Elin.

but, fwiw, i'm not sure this line of reasoning applies in this situation anymore, b/c Elin is Audi 5k, and I'm not thinking there is a real chance for reconciliation anymore. But as a theoretical, could-apply-to-others-in-this-scenario idea...
