"Question, smarties. It's raining in Chicago right now, but the temp will drop to 5 degrees within 24 hours, which means ice."

my dad died in feb 07. i flew from austin to ohare. they had had freezing, icy, blizzarding weather going on for days. schools had been cancelled all over the chicagoland area. ohare hadn't been closed. the morning we landed things were so backed up that they made our plane sit on the runway for about 3 hours waiting for a gate so we could de-plane. the weather kept getting worse and worse. every so often the de-icing truck would come by to hose down the plane. after 3 hours the decision was made to pull the plane up as close to a terminal as possible and they rolled up one of those stairways that let us get out and we crossed the tarmac and entered the terminal at ground level. not long after that i heard that the airport was shutting down b/c they were running short of the necessary chemicals to keep planes and runways deiced.
