Which I think stems from the idea of "if God guided the hands of those who wrote the Bible, He surely didn't need a couple thousand years to learn."

"He's God." Which, while having some merit, still lends the problem that the text needed to speak to those people too, in their terms and to their understanding of the world. Our inability to translate what all these rules mean in our new modern context is generally our own failing to distill the specificity of the document into guiding principles that apply to our modern understanding of the world.
