Not suggesting that we shouldn't try, but how does The Church hold any weight when it's *doctrine* that is supposedly not maleable.....is?

The bible is a text that is supposed to hold moral authoriy, and that moral authority is the foundation of The Church. How does such a shaky foundation not undermine the moral authority of The Church?
