I don't see what a hashtag does if every word is already searchable. -- nm

i will also note that whoever decided the "look at me!" beginning of the post placement was the smart spot for it was a goofball/idiot. -- nm

It should obviously be in the IM. -- nm

is this a twitter gripe? Because I agree. Hashtag stuff belongs at the end on twitter, not the beginning. -- nm

i refuse to even entertain the concept of hashtagging on ST by suggesting IM placement. -- nm

So if somebody does it for their own posts, you'll .... what? Like if I want to make it easier to tron something later, which I have actually done. -- nm

Yeah, I probably won't hashtag myself, but I don't see the harm if it's in the IM -- nm

It's more a categorization of the post. Tag it "gossip" and you'll see all the Gossip instead of having to know

Anyway, a bigger problem is some people would use "gossip" and others would use "celebrity news." Without a set of predetermined tags,it's useless.

But why type the # in front of the word? Instead of just typing the word?

I personally don't see the need for tagging here but I also don't see the "Favourite" link being needed but it's there...

I personally like the favourite system. I use it to keep track of links I can't click on at work so I can check them at home -- nm

Favourite and NSFW use the same system, and it could be easily extended to allow full tagging.

I daresay, you have the more elegant solution. It blends the concept of "starring" in GMail with something like a pos rep vote in other forums.

I do feel a need to extend it slighty, though. So that we can differentiate L5s and *golf claps*, as it were ... and also "do not like" -- nm

L5 is the easiest search metric on Dr. STalk possible, golf claps don't need categorization, and neg rep is so... negative.
