I don't understand the opposition to tagging posts on ST. People are being contrarian to the point of irrationality.

First, Andie, I want to say that I'm not telling Bery what to do with the site. I made a suggestion and then people have piled onto me because of that suggestion. I think it's a very good idea and very useful. And it does not use hashtags in any way. It works exactly like the "nsfw" tag works right now.

My proposal would not change ST for those who don't want to use them. It would be practically invisible. All that would change would be an additional drop-down next to the back-board dropdown and a series of checkboxes at the bottom of a post - underneath the link area, maybe even underneath the "Post This Message" area - for certain predefined tags. If you don't want to use those checkboxes, FINE. Ignore them. If you do, SUPER. There they are.

I don't understand. Really. People bitch seeing certain posts all the time. Imagine a system where you could actually filter out those posts. Don't want to read about "Tiger Woods" or "Ikariam" or "Mouse Hunt" or (hallelulah!) "Fantasy Sports" any more, imagine being able to just filter out those posts. But if you want to see all the posts about "HWDYK" or "Hottie of the Day", imagine being able to just choose that from the drop down et voila, there are the last 10, or 20, or 50 posts tagged with that term.

Imagine a person asking for help with Excel or coding a web page and being able to tag it as such so that anyone wanting to help can just browse those posts.

Instead, we prefer to bitch about "STOP POSTING IKARIAM!" or berating someone for reposting old news because there's no one-click way to check what's already been posted without going back 10 boards just to make sure and God forbid I miss that one post on B8, 'cause then ML's gonna nail me!

Seriously, you people are mental. It's not the friggin' end of ST.
