I don't mind that seating system at all...no other major form of pay transit use reserved seating

Buses and trains (you have to get a sleeper to have an assigned seat/berth on Amtrack) don't assign seats

I see it as more of a hassle for me. I like to get to the gate 30-45 minutes before the plane leaves. Flying Southwest, I have to be there at least
