my dad's younger brother (it was only the two of them), who was very wealthy, died a few years after my dad. he was a widower, no kids. he left almost everything to a relative of his wife, who was friends with him and took care of him some -- my siblings and I received $1,000 each.
some of us had regular contact with him -- I periodically drove to see him in SF from soon after I started driving (he didn't drive) -- but that apparently wasn't enough.
hurt there wasn't really about the money for me, it was that I was one of the ones who had regular contact but I was lumped-in with those who didn't.
