I believe the primary difference between Cameron and everyone else is that his mega-expensive movies make you understand where the money went.

Take for example Wolverine and its $150 million budget. I'm convinced two thirds of that was blown in a three week bender in Vegas. There is no way -that- film should have cost $150 million. Avatar somehow manages to look like penny pinching was involved to get the best possible special effects.
