And a prof at OSU is popular for advocating cutting down on children because of a person's footprint on the environment.

Ultimately, it's about what we can and cannot do to reduce our footprint. Everything has an impact on the environment. I remember a Bloom County where the kids dangle from a tree because they're afraid to crush bugs underfoot and try to stop breathing because of its impact on the eco-system. Some things we can do, others we can't.
