The only instance I can see the critique as somewhat valid (and even then it's suspect)...

is when someone you know to be a practicing Christian is speaking to you as another practicing Christian, and is hesitant to say "Merry Christmas", because (in general) most Christian faiths teach you to be proud and not ashamed to admit that fact. Even then, it would totally depend on a million things, but I could at least then see a conversation about it. Not rude or anything, but a conversation. But that is literally the only time.
