NaNoWriMo: Day 17 excerpt (No real Qale warning needed.)

After he pressed the large green button, the car started to move forward. The metallic joints whined and groaned a bit as theyd been stationary for several hours now, but it wasnt anything to be concerned about.

The Fortune Teller Peace stomping up toward the wheel holding her skirts in her hands, hurrying along as fast as she could manage, however, was. Stop him. Stop him and bring him back down to the ground. She protested harshly with Charlie who, slightly buzzed, was a bit spaced out about what the woman was demanding of him.

Go ahead bring it back, Charlie! My car had already rotated and been lifted several feet off the air. But with the key turned in the opposite direction the green button brought me right back to where I started. I slither out from underneath the security bar and walk to Peace and Charlie at the control panel. Whats wrong?

Peaces dark highlighted eyes go wide as I speak normally. While shed heard it all before, we werent in the privacy of her mysterious tent. One of her hands goes to her heaving breast as she shrieks, Oh the visions. The visions are so true, so true.

Charlie gave a little snort and retreated, perhaps quite wisely, to his blue pick-up truck, his partner, and more importantly to his can of beer. I however, remained with Peace, reaching my hand to take the long bony fingers of hers away from striking and clawing at her breast.

The visions pitted you against all odds once youd found your transformation. And here you speak, you have a glimmer of something new in your eyes, and look, Hadyn, look precious child, She raised her and my own hand up skyward where the billowing clouds admittedly were thickening.

Peace, okay. First calm down. Bringing my hand down, I dig them into my jeans pockets hoping she wouldnt do any more odd wild gestures with them. I thought you told me you couldnt see visions.

Her eyes looked distraught as she brought her gaze back from the heavens and focused on me. I squirmed a little uncomfortably as she told me, After your reading, after your brother failed you as you said he would, I had to try. Ive felt strong feelings about you, Hadyn, my child. Theres always a reason for things and weve been close for so long.

Yeah, but the reading was all wrong. Erin didnt attack what was between Dev and I; it actually took more than that. He lost focus during our show and dropped me. And while it wasnt right, I went and took his local boy, Kyle, while he was at the clinic. I did something for myself for once.

And now youre speaking. Youve changed, like the vision! Peaces eyes went wild once more, but I continued to shake my head.

Look, Peace, I get that you want to help me. Youve always looked out after me. Just like Don and Charlie care about me and look out after me. I give the two men a small gesture and then return my hand deeper into my pocket.

Charlie mutters something about Peace being a scary witch before popping the top of another beer. Don tells his partner to hush and behave before asking him to open another beer for himself. His fingers werent quite good enough to get the top open.

Hadyn, Peaces tone is lower, if not exactly calmer. I dont mean to scare you, but dont get back on the Ferris Wheel and dont perform tonight if you can get out of it if at all possible.

I frown. Devyn got hurt last night when he dropped me. I dont know how long itll be before we get to perform again.

Then just be safe, my child. Keep from acting in foolish ways. Keep from heights, keep from danger, keep from projectiles, keep from

Okay! Okay! I get it! I couldnt help but lose a bit of patience with the Fortune Teller. She seemed to be exceptionally wired already today and while I respected her, cared about her, she was coming across as being out of her mind with this vision nonsense. I back away from her, and give Charlie and Don a deep nod before turning to walk towards Control Ops.
