hmmm...

aside from the fire thing, i didnt find any meandering or loose ends. all of the 'weird' concepts had their place in the story. (okay, maybe the tattooed daughter was a little out there, but i took that whole bit to the desperate mind of a father worrying about her well-being - like how a nervous wife comes up with a thousand tragedies to explain what turns out to be her husband stuck in gridlock).

i completely disagree about it being dishonest because he's a successful writer. a) being successful does not magically make all your demons disappear - id argue that it can enhance them. b) the film, in terms of its moral, is not so much about a miserable failed playwright, but the narcissistic nature of mankind.
