If you're a professor without tenure in this state, then you're probably out of a job. My colleagues and I have taken pay cuts for the next two years (and will probably have to take layoffs if the measures don't pass). I'm not getting a raise. I probably won't see a cost-of-living adjustment for the next 4 years, never mind a raise based on merrit. In terms of law enforcement, felons - including violent offenders - are going unprosecuted, and if you're already in jail, get-out-of-jail-free cards are being handed out.
We have one of the lowest tax rates in the country and cannot support the current level of services. So, you make the call. What do we cut? Services for the disabled? The poor? Aged? Students?
The sky fell long ago. If you believe this is about giving people raises, I've a bridge in Brooklyn...
