agreed, but I think that the Helms-Burton isolationism is a poor way for the US to approach it.

Sure, it kind of made sense in an era when missile-based attacks were a forefront of the perceived threat, but that's long past. The policy just seems anachronistic these days.

Isolation isn't going to help the people see the appeal of "democracy". Tempting them with the fruit of democracy, and then denying them free access to it, isn't going to compel them to recreate it for themselves; it will only tempt them to hop the fence and try to steal it.
